Privacy Policy
By using NightIn, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. We may update this policy from time to time; we will post the revised version here and adjust the “Last updated” date.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated when you use NightIn, and limited technical data from your device.
Account and profile
- Name — displayed on your profile and shared with hosts or guests as described below.
- Email address — used for account access, verification, security notices, and (if you opt in) product updates.
- Date of birth — used to confirm eligibility (18+) and for age-appropriate handling of your account.
- Photos — profile images and other photos you upload to represent yourself or your events.
Location
We collect location-related data you provide or that we derive (for example, approximate area from your device or address details you enter when hosting). How we show this to others is explained in the “Location” section below.
Events and community activity
- Event data — titles, descriptions, dates, capacity, house rules, pricing or contribution details you add as a host, and your participation as a guest (applications, acceptances, attendance-related signals).
- Application messages — text you submit when applying to attend events or communicating through NightIn features intended for host–guest coordination.
- Videos — short clips or introductions you record in the browser and upload as part of applications or verification, as applicable.
Technical data
Like most online services, we receive device and usage data such as IP address, browser type, app version, general region, and logs that help us operate, secure, and improve NightIn.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Matching and discovery — show relevant events, hosts, and guests; power search, maps, and recommendations.
- Verification — confirm identity where we offer verification, reduce fraud, and maintain community trust.
- Safety and integrity — detect abuse, enforce our terms, respond to reports, and protect users and the platform.
- Notifications — send transactional messages (e.g., applications, acceptances, reminders) and, where allowed, marketing you can opt out of.
- Service operation — provide customer support, analyze usage in aggregate, fix bugs, and develop features.
- Legal compliance — meet applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
3. Photos and ID verification
Profile and event photos you upload are stored using industry-standard safeguards. Access is limited to what is needed to run the service.
Verification photos and ID-related submissions are treated as sensitive: they are used only for verification, fraud prevention, and safety, stored securely, and are not shown on your public profile or in discovery the way ordinary profile photos may be. Only authorized personnel and systems may access them, and retention follows our operational and legal requirements.
4. Video data
When you record video in the browser for NightIn (for example, an application intro), processing happens on your device before upload. Uploaded video is transmitted using secure connections and stored with access controls.
Application or host-review videos are shared only with the relevant event host(s) and our staff/systems as needed to operate the feature, enforce policies, and keep the community safe. We do not use these videos for unrelated advertising.
5. Location data
To help guests find events without exposing hosts unnecessarily:
- Approximate location (such as neighborhood or map pin accuracy suitable for discovery) may be shown publicly on event listings or maps so people can decide whether to apply.
- Exact address and precise location details are shared only with guests the host has approved for that specific event (and as needed for you to manage your own listings), not with the general public.
You can review in-app settings and event flows for the latest controls. If you disable location permissions, some features may not work fully.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only in limited circumstances:
- With other users as needed for the product (e.g., host sees applicant messages; accepted guests see address details).
- With service providers who help us host data, send email, analyze security, or run infrastructure, under contracts that restrict use.
- For legal, safety, and corporate reasons: to comply with law; to protect rights, safety, and property; or in connection with a merger or acquisition, subject to appropriate safeguards.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, or to object to certain processing. You can:
- Delete your account — use in-app account settings or contact us; we will delete or anonymize personal data as required, except where we must retain certain records for legal, security, or dispute resolution purposes.
- Request a copy or details — email us at the address below; we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.
- Marketing — opt out via unsubscribe links or account preferences where available.
8. Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and similar technologies (including local storage in the browser) to keep you logged in, remember preferences, measure performance, reduce abuse, and support PWA features when you install NightIn.
You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may break login or core functionality. Local storage may hold session tokens or UI state; clearing site data will sign you out of the web app on that device.
9. Security and retention
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we encourage strong passwords and device security.
We retain information as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Verification and safety-related records may be kept longer where permitted by law.
10. Children
NightIn is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
11. International users
If you use NightIn from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our providers operate, which may have different data protection rules than your home country.
